Wanting vs. Deciding: Which Drives Your Actions?

1-min read

Wanting and deciding may seem the same, but a closer look reveals they guide our actions in very different ways.

When we want something, our minds play a tug-of-war, weighing the pros & cons and sizing up potential challenges. It’s easy to step back from a want when obstacles arise, labeling our desires too difficult or out of reach.

On the flip side, when we decide, we commit wholeheartedly. Challenges transform from scary barriers into interesting puzzles waiting to be solved. This mindset shift doesn’t make problems easier; it just means giving up is no longer an option.

So, the next time you face an important decision, ask yourself: “Is this something I merely want, or have I truly decided on it?” Your answer might predict your next steps.
